OK, So, I ended up writing this piece about Jay-Z this morning for MadameNoire, only to realize that someone else had already written about it. So, here it is on my site. And I think it was God's way of getting me to finally update this thang with something new and fresh. Enjoy!

Although Jay-Z took home no Grammys from last night's show for his brilliant 4:44 album, Brooklyn's own gave a winning interview on the first episode of CNN's Van Jones Show on Saturday. The hip hop mogul was asked a series of questions that included his advice to men who have caused pain in their marriage; his thoughts on the #MeToo Movement; and why he thinks President 45 was elected.

Beyonce's 2016 album Lemonade was a damning admission that she and Jay were on the verge of calling it quits because of his incessant cheating. Van Jones asked the question that I assume some married couples wanted to know about dealing with something like that. Jones asked, "What is it about this marriage that's so special that you would fight this hard to save it?" With no hesitation, Jay-Z responded:

"Well, it's my soul mate, it's the person I love. You know, and you can be in love with someone, you can love someone and you not, and if you have not experienced love and understanding and you don't have the tools to move forward, then you're gonna have complications period. And you can either address it or you can pretend until it blows up at some point. And you know for us, we chose to fight for our love, for our family to give our kids a different outcome. To break that cycle for black men and women."

Jones took the question to another level, asking Jay-Z what advice he would give to men who have caused pain in their marriages.

"The best apology is changed behavior, right?...Also, you have to acknowledge the pain. You have to let that person have their say." He continued, "You have to get on the floor, get on the mattress, and you have to really work through it, really be honest and no matter how many times, it takes a while, it's hard, it's very difficult...to listen to that sort of pain. You have to be strong enough to go through that because on the other side, it's beautiful in our case.

And if Jay-Z was the one making a Lemonade album, would he forgive Beyonce?

"I hope. Again, because I love her the same way no matter what side because I love her. I pray that I will because her strength and her, you know man, she's the strongest woman I know. Her and my mother - they're battling for number one," he said.

The 48-year-old also had some thoughts on the #MeToo Movement, something that I doubt he would have even acknowledged 10 or 15 years ago. But as an evolved man (and yes, I believe he has changed or is at least giving a hard, hard try), he gave a sincere answer to what he believes is a necessary cultural shift.

"This had to happen to purge itself. Men have been in position for so long, and then of course, if you're in that position of power, to abuse your power, to get drunk off success, it's like, human nature if you go unchecked. It takes a really special person to have that sort of power and not wield it in the wrong way, so it has to happen...It existed the whole time. We normalized it."

And as for President 45, he just has one word: "Superbug." I couldn't have labeled Dolt 45 any better. Jay explains that because racist speech has been swept under the rug, like in the Donald Sterling case, it got to a point where people could no longer cover the stench up with spray, so it created a monster - Trump.

"...all the closet racists just run back in the hole...What you've done is sprayed perfume on a trash can, and when you do that, the bugs come...and then you create a superbug because you don't take care of the problem. You don't take the trash out, you just keep spraying whatever over it to make it acceptable."

Check out the rest of the interview where Jay talks about his 7-month old twins, Rumi and Sir Carter, "who can't move" around so fast yet, but when they do, Van Jones warns that they will get into double trouble, something he knows about because Jones is a twin himself.
